Acquired as a gift to the city of Manchester by Mrs. Josephine Silkenstadt in 1904. This relatively small garden is of 4¾ acres and is located in West Didsbury off Palatine Road. It was part of the gardens of her home and was donated in memory of her daughter Marie Louise who died in 1891 at the early age of 26.
The gardens are a simple shape, designed by prominent local Civic Engineer Joshua Cartwright with crossing pathways, edged with many rare and majestic trees that are a delight whatever the season. There are many interesting botanical specimens including a maidenhair tree (gingko). It is a secluded and peaceful place set aside from the busy world outside. The gardens are maintained by Manchester Council.

New Mosaic Garden added in 2010
